Why You Should Stop Writing Long Paragraphs on Your Website

Landing pages filled with long paragraphs usually convert at just 1-2%.
But the ones written to be scannable and fast to read often hit 8-12% easily.

Because people who visit your site don’t want to read.
They just want to look around and decide fast.

When they face a wall of dense text, their brain says:
“Maybe later…” (and they never come back)

Here are 5 reasons why hard-to-read landing pages kill your results:

1. They use high cognitive load

Seeing blocks of 4–5 lines of text is a mental challenge.

The result? They don’t read. They don’t buy.
Oops 😅

It’s like saying: “If you won’t read, you can’t buy.”
But in reality, the reader has the power. We have to win them over 😂

Fix it: Keep paragraphs short—1-2 lines max.
Use bullets, numbers, and whitespace to help.

2. Great benefits get buried

You might have an amazing offer.
But if it’s buried in a wall of text, no one will find it.

Fix it: Put your strongest value at the top.
Then support it with easy-to-read text.

3. Mobile users bounce instantly

Over 60% of visitors come from mobile.

Text that looks fine on desktop becomes a newspaper on a small screen.

Fix it: Write like you scroll—
No one should have to scroll forever just to get a single point.

4. People scan—they don’t read like a blog post

Eye-tracking research shows people read in F or Z patterns.

That means they look for subheadings, bullets, and visual cues.

Fix it: Design layouts that guide the eye.
Never dump everything into one giant paragraph.

5. Important trust signals get lost in the text

Testimonials / Logos / Showcase items — they should stand out.

If you hide them inside a paragraph, they turn into meaningless decor.

Fix it: Separate these into clear sections.
Use images or bold formatting to highlight them.

This kind of writing might work for email marketing or a video script.

But landing pages?
They’re not the place for storytelling.

They’re for making fast and easy decisions.
